Humans aren't ready to roam the universe

On the 40th anniversary of the Moon Landing, a writer bemoaned Man's failure to send humans beyond Earth's orbit in the years following that historic event. Personally, I'm glad Man has remained (relatively) Earthbound. Imagine the damage that could be done if Man treats any new lifeforms he might encounter as he has treated his own and other species that reside on this planet.

No. Really imagine.

Does the planet have a resource we want? No problem. Start a war to seize it.

Does the planet have an intelligent lifeform that differs from us in some way we consider significant and dangerous? No problem. Eradicate it through genocide.

Does the planet have what we consider a non-intelligent lifeform? No problem. Feel free to use it, abuse it, kill it, or drive it to extinction.

Humans should remain Earthbound until they have learned to treat their own and other species with respect, and to value living creatures no matter their appearance or intelligence level.

Hi Kylee,

I think you are way too down on humans. A bird crapped on my head yesterday, seriously, and I'm not about to ban all birds from New York City. I step in dog poop all the time, and I don't try to get dogs banned from the city. We're not slaghtering pigs wholesale because of the swine flu.

You need to chill. There are actually some good humans in the world. Take your master for instance. Wouldn't SHE be a great person to explore the universe and represent the human race? Is it possible that there is only ONE human worthy of representing us, or might there be millions or billions of kind, good-hearted people of good will on our planet? Maybe we need some of the good people to stop whining about the others and get out there and make a difference. Personally, I think the world would be a better place if good people did that. If the only one's willing to get out there and take a chance are the Columbus's of the world, with measles and stuff like that, then we are doomed.

By the way, all life on our planet is "human," isn't it? Not just Homo Sapiens? Why don't YOU represent us in the world?

Hi, Kylee. I'm going to try once more to post a comment. I tried yesterday. I tried twice. I can't remember what I said. I think I said something about humanity had to make up some sort of agreement before it goes anywhere else in space and they have to agree to certain behavior and they have to agree to consult with one another before any activity takes place. We need to explore, but we need to be a bit more intelligent about it. We don't need to go murdering entire species because it is "different." I would comment on what Joe says, but it is about 1/3 covered with "Ads by Google" and I can't get it to move at all. At least the "Post a Comment" is below that box today. I still have the fun of trying to get my comment posted. Wish me luck.

Hi Kylee,

What's up? Where are you? Are you out of the game? POW!" One punch back from me and you take your bone and go home????? What up wid dat?

Seriously, it would be nice to hear your thoughts. If you can get up out of your place in the sun long enough to write again, that would be a good thing.

:)

To all future posters on this site, it might be best to post using your name and a random web site address when blogger prompts you for your credentials. When I tried to post using my aol user name and password the past few times, blogger refused to recognize it, which made things frustrating. Just one more way that humans are screwing up the world, right Kylee?
